CATHM was formally launched on April 26th 2007, at an event attended by leaders from the business and public sectors. During the opening CATHM received strong endorsements from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and People 1st, the Sector Skills Council for the Hospitality, Leisure , Travel and Tourism Industry. The opening of CATHM attracted widespread attention and was extensively covered in the local, regional and national press.

Moreover, key figures from the tourism and hospitality sectors added their support with Dr Terry Stevens, International Tourism Consultant saying:

  • "This is a fundamentally important initiative for the UK hospitality industry. For many years the industry has searched for a solution capable of competing with the type of training provided by the Swiss hotel school model, and I believe this is it."

While David Guile, Deputy Chief Executive of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, emphasised the importance the industry support for CATHM, stating:

  • "As the first industry backed hospitality education centre in the UK, CATHM will offer unique learning experiences for people looking for a career in hospitality. As a leader in the market, Macdonald Hotels can offer students a wealth of experiences and expertise and, just as importantly, the chance to gain hands-on skills through working in our hotels throughout the country."
